January 2019 Meeting

The Jan meeting of the MHDXA will be on Thurs, 17 Jan 2019.  Thanks to the work of Dayton (K6DJ) who did the leg work in finding us a good meeting spot, he has reserved a private room at the Rock Bottom Brewery in Centennial (9627 E. County Line Road Centennial, CO 80112).  Plan on dinner around 18:00 hrs, and program to follow.   The caveat is we need to spend $300 in food and beverage (so plan on having dinner); with a good attendance, I do not think this will be an issue.
In case you missed the subject in a previous email, I have arranged for a program on “Getting a Handle on RF Noise and Interference”.  Radio frequency interference (RFI) has been around since the beginning of our hobby; our speaker is Ron Hranac (N0IVN), and he will talk about the major types of RFI and what causes it, a few of the more common sources of RFI, and provide some helpful guidelines for preventing RFI from happening in the first place.  Additionally, he will also share some troubleshooting tips and valuable resources that are available to the amateur radio operator.
Ron holds an Amateur Extra Class ticket, and was first licensed as WN7DSD in the mid-1970s. Overseas business travel has provided an opportunity to obtain reciprocal or temporary licenses in Great Britain (G0/N0IVN), Brazil (PY2ZRH), Australia (VK3FRH), and Taiwan (BV/N0IVN). He is a Technical Specialist for ARRL's Colorado Section, a member of ARRL’s EMC Committee, and has written and published hundreds of articles and papers, including amateur radio articles in "73 Amateur Radio," "Spec-Com Journal," "CQ VHF," and contributed to the ARRL RFI Book and ARRL Handbook.
